  • Maine – Exempt by statute for church-based religious schools; must notify students in writing, but no state registration is required (20-A M.R.S.A. § 10708(4))

  • Minnesota – Automatic exemption for church-owned schools offering instruction for living in accord with a specific faith (Minn. Stat. § 136A.657)

  • Missouri – Automatically exempt if nonprofit and church-related and offering only religious degrees (Mo. Rev. Stat. § 173.616)

  • Oregon – No registration required for religious institutions offering only religious instruction and not conferring degrees (Or. Rev. Stat. § 345.015(9))

  • South Carolina – Religious institutions are excluded from licensing by definition; no registration required (S.C. Code § 59-58-30(4))
